COACH

Little about yourself, past events:
I came to CrossFit with absolutely no sporting background except mandatory PE at school. Loved the atmosphere and variety of the sport and became obsessed! I've since managed to lose over 3 stone of fat and build up my strength and technique and have been lucky enough to compete in some competitions.

I’ve learnt so many new skills from being able to do pull-ups and handstands to being able to do Olympic lifts and can’t wait to master some more skills!
Alongside CrossFit, I am a working musician and have dabbled in many careers from teaching to online marketing. On the rare occasions I’m not at the gym, I’m at home with my wife trying to entertain a 4 and 6 year-old.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I have been doing CrossFit since September 2018

Favorite Workout?
My favorite workout would have to be either Annie or Cindy. I love the simplicity of both and you can’t beat a body weight/gymnastics WOD!

Favorite Movement?

My favorite movement would have to be either the clean or pull-ups mainly because these were my worst movements when I first started and I know feel I can push the intensity of those movements confidently.

Best moment at CrossFit Tamworth?

There are many best moments to choose from! It would have to be between either getting Double Unders or my first handstand, or competing in the CFT championships every year.

Favorite Cheat Food

Has to be Cauliflower hot wings with cashew range sauce! Maybe a sneaky summer fruits strudel and non-dairy custard for pudding!

Music you like to work out to?

I personally like anything I can sing and dance to! Love a bit of 80s and 90s and if I was on my own I’d throw on some funk!

Dean Taylor

CROSSFIT KIDS AND OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING COACH

Little about yourself, past events:
I came to CrossFit as it seemed the best option to help with all types of fitness. My sporting background is martial arts, in my younger years and Rugby. I am currently a RFU qualified adults and kids coach and also specialize in multi-sport fitness for children. I still play rugby as and when I can.

I have a love of all things weight lifting and I also support and coach on our barbell classes. I am qualified and registered with the British Olympic weightlifting organization and very proud that CrossFit Tamworth is one of the few places in the midlands that is a registered center for the BWL organization. My day job is working within the NHS and Public Health community and I am a qualified nurse and have been for over 17 years.

APPRENTICE

Little about yourself, past events:
I started training at CrossFit Tamworth 3 years ago at age 16 and was quite skinny and I wasn't the strongest as well as having poor mobility. Fast forward 3 years and I have managed to put on weight/ Muscle mass and have significantly became stronger and my mobility has improved. I also love to compete in CrossFit cause it's fun learning what your mind and body is capable of!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I have been doing CrossFit for 3 years and started CrossFitting in early 2018!

Favorite Workout?

It would have to be between Cindy and Murph as the movements in both are the same and ones that I enjoy!

Favorite Movement?
Snatch! As it’s such a hard lift to master and whenever you get them small wins on it you feel like you conquered the world!

Best moment at CrossFit Tamworth?

My best moment was when I managed to String 4 bar muscle ups together in my first CrossFit Open and everyone was cheering me on!

Favorite Cheat Food

Has to be Nandos, half a chicken with chips and garlic bread with lemon herb flavour on the chicken! Sounds basic but you can’t beat it!

Music you like to work out to?

It really depends on what we are doing for me. If it’s a raw strength workout then I like Rock music, if it’s a CrossFit session I like anything with a beat.

Hayleigh Wishart

COACH

Little about yourself, past events:
My original background was Netball, where I played competitively for Edinburgh Netball Club and Edinburgh District. In my last year of school I completed Fife School of Sports course to take children's sports summer camps, which covered everything from bowling to rugby. I started cheerleading at university as a Stunter (got to throw people around) and cheered in Canada during my study abroad semester.

Found crossfit after following a few people on Instagram and getting bored of working out on my own. Walked through the door and never looked back. I’ve changed my mindset towards training, eating to fuel workouts and creating balance between training, work and life. I am an Athlete for Be Defiant, an advocate for mental health and have my mental health first aid qualification.
I wanted to be a coach to help others with their mindset towards training, body image, nutrition and lifestyle.
Outside of CrossFit & Coaching I am an area manager in pubs, I love travelling, going on adventures and wild swimming.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Started August 2019. But like everyone you ask, wished I’d started sooner.

Favorite Workout?
I love Karen (150 wall balls) for time
And Grace (30 Clean & Jerks) for time

Favorite Movement?

Clean & jerk, purely because I love seeing the progress I have made with the technique over time. And also have a love hate relationship with Double Unders but again, it’s become a favourite because its taken a lot of work to get even a few. I love the challenge.

Best moment at CrossFit Tamworth?

In my first open, days after I’d done my first handstand against the wall (and cried, had a panic) I managed a handstand push up with the help and encouragement from Coach Mark, who made me believe I could do it. I did, and that what makes crossfit so great, your body is so capable and you can prove it to yourself.

Favorite Cheat Food

Personally don’t have a particular cheat food. I eat chocolate and peanut butter every day because nutrition is about balance. There are some foods more nutritionally dense some less so, but its about balance and finding what works for you.

Music you like to work out to?

Anything that gets me focused, Stronger by Kanye West is my in the zone song
But anything dancey, good bass and I can have a sing along too.

Christian Glover

COACH

Little about yourself, past events:
Over grown child with hair that's too long. That can usually be found hoping about in a pair of converse. I'm a lifelong martial artist, culminating in becoming a world champion kickboxer, but I've been through most sports at some point. From football to cricket, track and field jumper to running, triathlon to fighting. I've also been lucky enough to coach, and continue to coach, my own fighters to a championship level.

Outside of the sporting arena I’m a bit of a petrol head and engineer so do occasionally have skinned knuckled and grubby fingernails.
Position:

Coach
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Since October 2020.

Favorite Workout?
Cindy because I can really get into it and it was my first team name for the Tamworth CrossFit championships.

Favorite Movement?
Love a good deadlift or anything that involves hanging from the rig

Best moment at CrossFit Tamworth?
The few seconds of calm before the storm when a WOD is about to start.

Favorite Cheat Food
Pizza or chocolate hobnobs

Music you like to work out to?
Anything goes as far as I’m concerned, whatever it is I’ll get into it.

Craig Smith

COACH

Little about yourself, past events:
Coming from a military background I've always enjoyed training in groups and when I found CrossFit 5 years ago it filled that void I'd missed after I left the Royal navy. I started competing in competitions and then onto my Judges CrossFit course. This enabled me to judge at various competitions around the country.

3 years ago I was given the opportunity to do my Level 1 coaches course and work at a small functional fitness gym in Coventry. Their membership meant that every class we have to modify and scale movements which gives you a great understanding of peoples ability and what needs to be done so they can get the most out of each movement.

Position:
Coach

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
5 years

Favorite Workout?
I love long chippers or Hero workouts. Murph is probably my favorite.

Favorite Movement?
A Clean and Jerk is my favorite closely followed by the Snatch.

Best moment at CrossFit Tamworth?
As a coach it is always great to see people better themselves, lifts and fitness inside and out of the gym from information you can pass onto them.

Favorite Cheat Food
It has to be fresh, hand stretched wood fired pizza.
